any cloud cover but we are cold with 30 in santa rosa, good morning napa, 3 is for you. the delta and concord. 36 san jose with 52 half moon bay and 32 gilroy. compared to yesterday morning, we are just about the same. maybe a degree cooler or warmer, depending on where you are. overall we are looking at the stable, chilly temperatures in the morning and then for the afternoon numbers just on the other side of the low to mid-60s. 4-mile visibility around santa rosa. the high surf advisory once again today through 4:00 and then mild afternoon temperatures through tuesday. we will look for this big ridge of high pressure eventually to break down after tuesday. here's a look at the high surf advisory with the swells beginning to build, 8 feet outside san francisco and half moon bay. perhaps up to 20 feet this afternoon with strong rip currents and large breaking waves possible. we have the surface high to the east of us over novato and the flow around the high, the clockwise flow, allowing for the offshore winds once again today. so with that, a little breezy at times. that air mass

be down to the 20s again if the santa rosa area. 37 degrees still chilly in san jose. almost 50 in san francisco. fairly mild at the coast. but mild is going to be the word to talk about this afternoon. sunshine all the way to the beaches. it will be a little hazy. but beautiful weather in fact these numbers running above the average for this time of year. usually we're in the 50s and low 60s. today as much as 6 degrees above average at 63 in santa rosa. should be about 65 degrees in san jose. that's five degrees above normal and 62 degrees in san francisco. i think that weather is going to hold through the weekend. let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> thanks, lawrence. and outside right now, this is our problem spot. it's in san mateo county. if you are traveling southbound 280 right around vista point or a little past highway 92, there's an accident involving several deer. they were maybe doing a traffic break in the area. they are working to clear it now. so southbound 280 may be a little slow once you get past 92 through san mateo county.
've got high temperatures for today, over the santa clara valley, you hit 64 today. santa rosa, 64. 63 for santa rosa. morgan hill, mid-60s. how about oakland, downtown oakland, 68 degrees. another day in the low 60s for concord. we're zooming in, cbs 5 high- def doppler showing you the 880 corridor, 580 as well, dublin, livermore, tri valley, hayward, all dry. and the entire bay area, not only dry tonight, dry for saturday, sunday and monday. slight chance of a couple showers towards the end of next week, but not much going on weather wise for the next few days, except for sunshine. couple things to point out here, that big dome of high pressure is still firmly right over top of us. but there is kind of a building army of low pressure areas off to our west. as they get closer to us, they will over the next few days, they will begin to impact our weather, but likely not until next tuesday or wednesday. this big h means the center of high pressure that is sinking air, spreading out all throughout the west coast. we get sunshine, dry weather, mild weath

at the sweep on top of mount saint helena. very quiet. 33 santa rosa, all the way up to 42 right now in napa. 59 half moon bay. 37 livermore. just within the half-hour numbers have come up significantly. monterey 59 degrees. a couple 70s down there this afternoon. so 24 hours ago we were a little bit cooler. this morning we are warmer so the atmosphere getting into that mixing right now. bringing some of the warmer air are the upper levels down to the surface. of course, we have the warm air at the coast. that mixing is improving the air quality. not a spare-the-air day. we had chilly temperatures this morning. still cool. looking for the high surf advisory through the afternoon and the mild weather continues through tuscaloosa. right now current wave heights about 7 feet right off the coast here. but in the deeper waters we are looking near 20 feet. could get bigger than that. very dangerous out there. looking at the parking lot at half moon bay, it is a very busy place. with the beautiful day, lots of folks will be enjoying the weather the next couple days and this is why. high pressure co

of the temperatures. 28 novato, 27 santa rosa. i saw a lot of 30s and even 40s in marin county, some of the higher elevation, woodacre, 45. mill valley, 43. half moon bay, 46. but not far away i've seen 50. san jose, 34. hayward says a little bit of patchy fog and 36 degrees. offshore breeze mainly, oakland has one and one at half moon bay. inland, it's still going to stay in the 50s. some of that fog makes it tough along with the east breeze. there's a 12-degree difference between plan hill and vallejo at the same time. it gives you an idea of what's going on. 50s for some. low 60s for others. 60 novato. and then 54 antioch to 62 oakland. alameda, 60. but livermore, 55. 63 balmy degrees, milpitas, santa clara, 60. half moon bay, daly city, same think. it will be close for menlo park and redwood city and san francisco. not much of a change. but other than that, it's a dry forecast. >>> there's shock and confusion this morning at notre dame. a football star bound for the nfl says he was duped by an elaborate hoax. mike tobin is live at the fox news bureau in chicago. it's about a made-up girlfriend
rosa, napa, around freezing so watch out for black ice. that shouldn't be an issue for san francisco or oakland likely staying in the low 40s tonight. it's another "spare the air" day tomorrow. moderate air quality for the east bay and south bay. but unhealthy air quality levels for the north bay, central bay over the peninsula and also the coast. so watch out tomorrow for that poor air quality. it's all because of high pressure which dries out the atmosphere and cbs 5 hi-def doppler completely dry and that's been a trend. look at santa rosa. december, you had nearly a foot of rainfall triple the normal amount. now let's fast forward to january where you are right now. first half of the month less than one half of one inch of rainfall. so you had 20 times more rain in december than you have had in january so far. will the pattern change? the pattern with us will be with us throughout the next seven days. it's a huge bubble of high pressure. storm track stays north of the canadian border far from the bay area and with high pressure not

in santa rosa, 40 in vallejo. mild start in downtown san francisco at 46 degrees. you will see by 8:00 a.m. most of us will be sitting pretty in the 40s. 30s along the delta. by lunch all of that green starts to fill in on the screen. we'll see 60s. temperatures will continue to climb this afternoon. we'll cool it down again. in the 50s by 8:00 p.m. the afternoon highs, mid- to upper 60s in the south bay, wall to wall sunshine, clear conditions will persist. los gatos high of 68, 65 in sunnyvale, low 60s in the east bay, very mild for this time of year. fairfield 60, 62 in danville. east bay shoreline mid-60s for berkeley and oakland. 63 for downtown san francisco, 62 in san bruno. clear conditions will persist as high pressure remains in control for the next couple of days. big changes to talk about, the 7-day highlights the potential for some rain wednesday morning. most of that wet weather will stick north of the golden gate bridge. it has the potential to spread its way south. we'll return to the sunshine thursday and friday. saturday and sunday another storm is headed to our area. l

[applause] >> we look around and remember the men and women that helped define our nation. they like us faced obstacles and they like us worked hard to remove this country forward. here in this hall, four presidents took the oath of office. here abraham lincoln served a single term in congress and john quincy adams. only former president to return to serve in the house, spoke out against slavery. we also remember an event that took place outside of this building but reverberated within n this marks the 50th anniversary of the reverend martin luther king, jr.'s march on washington which spurred passage of the historic civil rights laws. we're honored to have a with us, a colleague, congressman john lewis, who was a speaker at that historic march.
